All About Brushes!

Hello Everyone!
So, I've talked about makeup, palettes, and where makeup started, so now it's time for none other than what we apply it all with. That's right, I'm here to talk to you about brushes.

There are 2 main types of brushes: Synthetic and Natural. Many brands make both, and some brands even make hybrid duo fibers, where the brush is made with a mix of Natural and Synthetic hairs.

The Inglot 27TG is a duo fibre brush, used especially for cream or liquid products as it buffs the product into the skin very well. It also gives a light, flawless, airbrushed finish, which many people look for in a makeup brush these days. It can be compared to the MAC 187.

More of the High Street brands (Such as Inglot, MAC, Bobbi Brown and Benefit) manufacture Natural hair brushes as they are softer than Synthetic hair, and more drugstore brands (Like Real Techniques, EcoTools, Models Own and No7) make Synthetic hair brushes as they are cheaper to make than Natural hair brushes.

Due to the manufacturing process, Natural hair brushes get dehydrated, so they are unfortunately not specially made for liquid or cream products, as they soak up the products. They are also made by killing animals for the hair, which many people (Including me) are against.

Synthetic Hair brushes are made from a plastic material called Taklon. This is a soft bristle plastic that is perfect for sensitive skin, or skins which have any allergic reactions to natural hairs from certain animals. Real Techniques brushes are ALL made from Taklon, and they are all very cheap and very good, so pick up a few! (No, this is not sponsored!) Take a look at this video from Real Techniques about the Retractable Lip Brush!

Taklon, as I mentioned before, is a plastic. This is made from oil, which is extracted from the ground, after being crushed into oil by the pressure of the earth. What has been crushed, you ask? Well, it happens to be 350 Billion Year Old dead sea creatures. Yup, gross. Yet when you imagine it, around 75% of what we use everyday is made of plastic, which comes from the same thing!

Natural Hair brushes are usually made with Goat, Pony or Ox hair. Yes, you read right. PONY hair. As in Horse pony. Yup, animal cruelty at its finest. This is exactly why I don't use Natural Hair brushes in my kit. Now, don't get me wrong, I love how some Natural Hair brushes apply, I just disagree with the fact that we kill animals for them.

Hope you guys enjoyed my post, and I'll catch you all later!
Jonny :)
