MAC - All about the World's Fav Makeup Brand!

So I bet you all have heard of the high street makeup brand, Make-Up Art Cosmetics, A.K.A: MAC.
But where does this well known high street brand come from?

So we all know that on the back of any MAC product, it says that it was distributed by Make-up Art Cosmetics, Toronto, Canada. If you don't, HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW ABOUT MAC?

However, this is a blog about the geography about makeup, NOT a rant about how people don't know what MAC is, so I have to keep on topic. *Sigh*

So, MAC was started by Frank Toscan and Frank Angelo in Toronto, Canada. Oh my glob they were both called Frank... #MINDBLOWN

Anyways, MAC was set up in 1984 by those two people, and it was originally known as Makeup Art Cosmetics. MAC wasn't available to the general public at first, as it was created for Makeup Artists (I'll call them MUAs for this post), but the general public kept getting very interested in the brand, so in 1991, Angelo and Toscan opened the first MAC store in New York City.

In 1996, Estee Lauder (The ones who make Double Wear Foundation) developed an interest in MAC's success and tried to buy it over, succeeding in 1997 when Frank Angelo died on the operating table during surgery difficulties... yep kinda creepy.

Since then, MAC has only grown. MUAs all over the world use MAC in their kits (Yes, I do too!) and they have developed a strong competitive edge which sets them apart from the other high street cosmetic brands like Inglot or Bobbi Brown.

MAC has created numerous lines, the most famous of which being the Studio range. This consists of the Studio Fix Powder foundation, Studio Fix Fluid foundation, Studio Finish concealer, Studio Sculpt foundation and bronzers, and the Studio Tech foundation. These are all VERY high coverage, and they work a charm.

With MAC's success, they wanted to use that to give back to the community, and to those in need. For this, they created the Back2MAC Scheme, the MAC Aids Fund, and the VIVA GLAM collections.

The Back2MAC Scheme promotes recycling. As you know (hopefully), MAC's packaging is hella beautiful and chic, but ITS EXPENSIVE TO MAKE! So, MAC came up with a plan: Bring in 6 finished items of packaging, and get a free lipstick! Or eyeshadow, whatever floats your boat!

VIVA GLAM was created in conjunction with the MAC Aids Fund. VIVA GLAM gave Celebrities a chance to create their own signature lipsticks, and every single cent earned went to the MAC Aids Fund.

Celebs who have had their own VIVA GLAM lines include Ongina, RuPaul, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, and many others.

MAC Aids Fund is pretty self explanatory, it's a part of the company that donates money to Aids research in North Africa. All the money recieved from the VIVA GLAM campaigns go to the MAC Aids Fund. Pretty clever if I have to comment on it!

So, Yeah! That's all I really can say about MAC, other than it is the BEST MAKEUP BRAND TO EVER BE CREATED! I love MAC so much...Almost too much.
